“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.

“The following quote attributed to Scottish history professor Alexander Tyler in 1787, seems to portray an accurate reflection of what has occurred during our 200+ years of existence as a democracy.

“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.

A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”

“The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

•From bondage to spiritual faith;
•From spiritual faith to great courage;
•From courage to liberty;
•From liberty to abundance;
•From abundance to complacency;
•From complacency to apathy;
•From apathy to dependence;
•From dependence back into bondage

“These words were written two years before George Washington became America’s first President. There is so much truth in these words it makes one shudder, especially since the America today is clearly at stage 7. An honest appraisal of America’s downward spiral is necessary to begin the process of redemption. Americans have continually voted themselves increased benefits, dependent upon the printing presses of the Federal Reserve to sustain America’s ponzi scheme. Americans have pawned away their future and the bill will eventually come due.”

You say :

  • This is why I oppose democracy in Singapore. The existing system of clean government, elections and govt discretion to stop threats when needed is necessary. I believe that a good nation handles its succession well. Democracy doesnt equal automatic good renewal. Its the duty of Singaporean to ensure that each generation brings improvement. We will not renew ourselves by just saying hold an election and ‘talents magically pop up’.
  • Every nation need to find their own system, the perfect system, like the perfect man, is not born yet.
  • US is democracy in name but not in deeds. Ask the Occupy Wallstreet people if they were treated in a democratic manner by their own police.

    In reply :
    The guardian of the system, in maintaining strict compliance to a bonafide democracy n prudent safe guarding the public treasury will inevitably be labelled as ‘dictatorial’, the system ‘Demoncratic’ and it’s supporters as ‘blind running dogs’! This is the prevailing mindset of entitlement-inclined, opposition biased, new age Singaporeans!
