They’re young, connected and ready to campaign issues at the touch of the button.

But not all are serious activists.  Many are ready to swear their commitment, but when the day comes to turn online chatter into an offline slog, they go missing.

There’s a term for this inaction – slacktivism

Local blogger Tan Lixin, 19, knows this all too well.

Now spearheading a cause to “Stop The Culling”of stray animals, Miss Tan has about 1,400 signatures on her petition to date.  But fewer than 10 people have pledged their commitment to render physical assistance to carry out the cause.

For instance, help is needed to raise funds by selling items and to promote awareness through flyer distributions or talks.

Ït’s definitely more difficult to gather support and advocate change when people only commit themselves online.
